City advises road users of resurfacing along Giel Basson Drive and Rothschild Boulevard

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises the public of roadworks in Monte Vista. The work starts tonight, 2 February 2026 and will take place at night between 19:00 to 05:30 from Monday to Friday, to avoid peak traffic times. If all goes according to plan, the project should be complete by 19 February 2026.
Road users and businesses in the Monte Vista and Kaapzicht Area are advised of the following roadworks:
Road resurfacing along Giel Basson Drive (northbound and southbound) from the N1 bridge to Rothschild Boulevard
Road resurfacing along Rothschild Boulevard (Eastbound and Westbound) from Giel Basson Drive to Monte Vista Boulevard Circle
‘Residents and business owners in Monte Vista can expect some noise while works are under way over the next few weeks. Our teams will do their best to complete the road resurfacing as efficiently as possible. Residents can look forward to the newly resurfaced Giel Basson Drive and Rothschild Boulevard very soon. The City’s Road Infrastructure management teams are working hard to get to as much of this important road maintenance work while the weather conditions remain favourable for these roadworks. We ask that the public remain patient while these projects are under way as we have a limited period of time during the year where we can push to complete as much of this work as possible. Maintaining these roads is one of the ways in which we keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Residents who make use of this stretch of road are advised of the following:
The resurfacing work will be conducted outside normal day time working hours
between 19:00 and 05:30, however one lane will be open to traffic during these hours.
All lanes are scheduled to reopen to traffic by 06:00 on weekdays, unless something unforeseen occurs.
Due to the expected congestion in the area it is recommended that road-users consider making use of alternate routes between 19:00 and 05:30
